EDUCATION

Natalie grew up within the performing arts world of Toronto, Ontario, where she attended Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts.  Her background as a dancer and stage actor deeply influences her work as a filmmaker.  As a graduate of the Indigenous studies program at Trent University, her work is centred around relationships, between people, peoples, and places.  She believes that film, and the visual and performing arts in general, have a unique ability to bring vastly different stories together.

Right now, this is what our world needs the most.

TRENT UNIVERSITY

Indigenous Studies

Between 2019 and 2022, a deep, difficult, yet essential transformation happened.  It was much more than a history lesson, more personal than a lecture hall, less undergraduate degree and more fullbody flip-flop.  I wouldn't be here without it, and could never leave it behind.

The people who taught me who I am, where I come from, what I am responsible for, and what I can change are in the forefront of my mind everytime I sit behind a camera.  My words filter through their ears.  My thoughts remember everything they said.

Musical Theatre, Dance, Drama.  These are the foundations of who I am as an artist.  They humbled me, fooled me, made me cry, made me love, asked me what worked, what didn't?  Most importantly, they gave me a taste of what was possible.  It's hard to turn away from that.
